With its 205 miles of shoreline surrounded by a barrier reef that protects turquoise lagoons, Mauritius offers visitors authentic underwater experiences throughout the year. With its safe channels that extend to the barrier reef, rock formations and shipwrecks, the island offers a variety of dives for beginner divers and experienced divers. The best aspect of diving in Mauritius is the proximity to the coast. Although most demanding locations are outside the reef, you can access them by boat in just 20 minutes. In addition, diving centres in Mauritius and Rodrigues have in mind the conservation of the fragile underwater landscape of the Indian Ocean. The diver will not be fighting for space in a crowded area for divers, nor see moored boats, which could tear off pieces of precious coral. Mooring buoys are used instead, in line with the rules of the Association of Diving in Mauritius (MSDA). A wide variety of dives are available: the northern region offers fascinating dives of only 42 ft deep. The colorful corals, abundant marine life and wrecks pile up to create artificial reefs that can be visited all year round. Canyons, caves and chimneys: the west is the leeward coast of Mauritius and as such, offers the benefits of a microclimate all year. In this area all the dives are performed outside the barrier reef. The underwater scenery of Flic in Flac are formed by currents: here may discover canyons and a row of caves. Near Mount Morne and near the Black River, corals are more colorful than on the east coast and are often frequented by dolphins.
