For divers, the island of Terceira makes interesting dives for marine life and unique rock formations, plus, great historical and cultural interest. The Underwater Archaeological Park, located in the Bay of Angra do Heroismo, is composed of several archaeological sites that are a real underwater museum, witness to the strategic importance of the city throughout the centuries. The main attractions of this park are undoubtedly the Cemitério das Âncoras (Cemetery of Anchors), where we can see more than 40 anchors of the sixteenth to the twentieth century, and  the 255 ft long Lidador steam ship, which sank in 1878. The island has excellent dive spots known for their rich marine, including a collection of small islands that rise to the surface about 5 miles from the south coast of Terceira, Fradinhos has an abundance of species such as grouper or common sheephead and large schools of pelagic fish.

The cave of the Five Ribeiras is one of the most interesting cave dives in the archipelago, where you can explore a large number of connected chambers. Terceira is also one of the best dive sites in the Azores Islands - explore the seamount Dom João de Castro Bank, located at the top of a volcanic cone, where you can still observe volcanic activity and encounter with large schools of pelagic fish are common.
