The Bedouin village of Dahab, known as a paradise for hippie and bohemian tourists, is located 75 kilometres from Sharm el Sheikh on the Sinai Peninsula´s East Coast. It is surrounded by a beautiful mountains landscape. In the center of the small Bedouin town of Assala a lot of cozy bars can be found, traditional places to eat, "shisha" to smoke and nice shops along the beach promenade. Dahab means gold, named after the sand´s bright colour. The Dahab region is located amongst a huge plateau of rock and sand at the bottom of the dry River Nasab. The Bedouins settled here around the small oasis. Dahab lies alongside the deepest section of the African Rift, a giant crack in the Earth's crust that formed the Red Sea. The sharp mountain landscape forms an amazing underwater scenery of valleys, canyons and caves. Most of Dahab's dive sites are geologically unique. The two most famous are the Canyon and the Blue Hole, a circular hole 164ft wide and with a depth of several hundred feet.
