The Pityuses Islands are located just 52 miles from Denia. Around the coast of Ibiza and Formentera are over eighty dive sites in clear waters with a colourful underwater sites. Ancient Greeks named the Pityuses, meaning "island of pines." Ibiza and Formentera are the southernmost islands of the Balearic archipelago, which determine the mild climate and pleasant water temperature. The coastline of the Pitiüses has a catalogue of diving possibilities, landscapes. cliffs, coves, sandy beaches, small coves, numerous islets. The large marine biodiversity and diving conditions are ideal to meet the most demanding divers, offering exceptional visibility (typically 49 to 98 ft, and sometimes over 131 ft during the summer), a pleasant water temperature between 59 ºF and 65 ºF, and almost no current. The nature reserves of Ses Freus in the south and cala D'Hort, east of Ibiza, are a complete representation of the Mediterranean's underwater ecosystems and flora and fauna. The beauty and ecological value  was recognized by UNESCO, declaring the Posidonia Ses Salines as a Heritage Site in 1999.
